The supervisory board of the Metropolregion Hannover Braunschweig Göttingen Wolfsburg GmbH consists of 18 members. The presidency is alternating between the mayors of the cities Hannover and Braunschweig. From the 19th of August 2009 to the 19th of August 2011 the mayor of the state capital Hannover, Stephan Weil, was the chairman of the committee. The term of office of the mayor of Baunschweig, Dr. Gert Hoffmann, followed from the 20th of August 2011 to the 12th of November 2013. On the 13th of November 2013, the mayor of the state capital Hannover, Stefan Schostok, was appointed as the head of the supervisory board. In June 2014 the new mayor of Braunschweig, Ulrich Markurth, also became the successor of Dr. Gert Hoffmann in the supervisory board.
The composition of the supervisory board results from the partnership shares of the GmbH. The four name-giving cities delegate one person each; the Land Lower Saxony is also participating with one person in the supervisory board. The three associations “Kommunen in der Metropolregion”, “Wirtschaft in der Metropolregion” and “Hochschulen und wissenschaftliche Einrichtungen” can also delegate four persons each to the supervisory board. One representative in the supervisory board is planned for the operating chambers of industry and commerce within the area of the Metropolregion (Hannover, Braunschweig, Lüneburg-Wolfsburg).
