City Country Region
In the area of the Metropolregion are living 3.8 million people on 19.000 km². This corresponds to almost one third of the area and almost half of the population of the Land Lower Saxony. So, the Metropolregion is a bit larger than the Free State Sachsen and only slightly smaller than the Land Rheinland-Pfalz. The Metropolregion has more inhabitants than Berlin (3.5 million) and only insignificant fewer inhabitants than Rheinland-Pfalz (4.0 million). The area reaches from the administrative district Heidekreis in the North to the Hessian and Thuringian borders in the South. In the West, the Metropolregion reaches to the administrative district Schaumburg, the cities Bückeburg and Rinteln and to the Land Nordrhein-Westfalen. In the East, the administrative district Helmstedt that is at the border to the Land Sachsen-Anhalt marks the widest range of the Metropolregion.
